Employee, Peggy Landers yearned to belong to an organization like Toastmistress because it sounded like it was interesting, exciting, a wonderful continuing education program.
But since Benjamin Harrison had its maximum allowable membership of 30, with others on a long waiting list, she felt left out. So, she spoke to Training and Development, explain the problem and then convinced them of the need for organizing another club in the Finance Center.
The Commanding General gave permission to organize a second club. Once again, the response was overwhelming. Peggy Landers attended the meeting along with several friends. She joined and was selected by the organizing unit from council, to be the organizing President. She was latter elected by the DIPLOETTES Toastmistress Club as their charted President. The club charter #2765 was issued in 1978 with 30 members and they had a waiting list of 10 members.

The club was officially re-charted as the Powerful Speakers Chapter of POWERtalk International on 1 November 2007. This proud organization’s resilience and enduring determination is attributable to the heroic presidents that have accepted the call to service the communications and leadership needs of people locally, nationally and internationally. We applaud them knowing that the world is a much better place because they overcame the challenge and taught others to do the same.
